🔥🕊️ After the Shooting: A Reflection on Charlie Kirk’s Legacy

The tragedy invites believers to consider the intersection of faith, politics, and witness in today’s culture.

GOOD MORNING.

“We are all fallen creatures and all very hard to live with.

If we look for justice, we shall never find it.

We must learn to forgive and to forbear.”

C.S. Lewis, Letters to Malcolm

The recent attack on Charlie Kirk—and the rush of anger and vitriol that followed—has weighed heavily on me. Even when outrage feels righteous, Lewis reminds us that a life fueled by retribution can never satisfy.

This week, may we refuse to let fury take root. May we keep Christ at the center, forgiving as we have been forgiven, and guarding our hearts from the subtle temptation to make politics or vengeance the ultimate cause.

SPECIAL REPORT

A Tragedy That Shook a Movement

The shocking shooting that claimed the life of Charlie Kirk left both his family and his movement reeling. As the founder of Turning Point USA, Kirk was not only a political figure but also a public witness to his Christian faith, often speaking in churches and encouraging believers to be bold in the public square. His sudden death brings grief to many and underscores the fragility of life — reminding Christians that “we do not know what will happen tomorrow” (James 4:14).

Faith and Politics in Tension

Kirk’s life and work embodied the growing convergence of evangelical Christianity and conservative politics in the United States. He spoke boldly about faith in Christ while urging believers to take an active role in shaping public policy. For many Christians, this was inspiring; it gave young people a sense that their faith could and should influence culture. Yet his example also raises difficult questions: when political battles dominate the public expression of Christianity, does the cross risk being overshadowed by ideology rather than exalted as the symbol of salvation?

Learning From His Legacy

Supporters remember Kirk as a courageous truth-teller, unafraid to defend Christian values against cultural hostility. Critics, including some within the church, worry that his rhetoric sometimes deepened polarization and tied the credibility of the gospel too closely to partisan struggles. His death freezes that witness in time. The church is now challenged to reflect carefully: to honor his zeal while committing anew to proclaim Christ above all political loyalties. Our task going forward is to bring faith into the public square with both courage and humility, ensuring that our hope is grounded not in personalities or movements but in the eternal gospel of Jesus Christ.

We pray that communities across the nation would turn to Christ for reconciliation and true justice, and that His love would quiet division and restore unity.
