🔥🕊️ Deadly Bomb Plot Foiled at Uganda Martyrs’ Day Celebration

Ugandan security thwarts suicide bombing targeting Christian pilgrims in massive holiday gathering.

GOOD MORNING.

This week, Boulder, Colorado became the site of a tragic terrorist attack—targeting a peaceful public demonstration and striking at the heart of First Amendment freedoms. What should have been a protected expression of speech turned into a scene of violence and fear.

At ROAM Intelligence, we condemn this act and stand firmly with our brothers and sisters impacted. Violence has no place in a free society, and attacks on liberty—anywhere—demand our attention.

We’re committed to mapping and monitoring threats like this, not just for awareness, but to help the global Church stay informed, vigilant, and connected.

SPECIAL REPORT

Attack Thwarted Amid Massive Martyrs’ Day Gathering

On June 3, 2025, Ugandan security forces intercepted and neutralized two suspected suicide bombers near the Munyonyo Martyrs’ Shrine in Kampala. The suspects, a man and a woman on a motorcycle, were stopped approximately 500 meters from the shrine during the annual Martyrs’ Day celebrations, which drew over 2.5 million pilgrims. As security personnel approached, the female suspect detonated an explosive device, killing both assailants and destroying their motorcycle. No civilian casualties were reported.

ADF Militants Suspected in Attempted Attack

Authorities suspect the attackers were affiliated with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a rebel group aligned with the Islamic State. The ADF has a history of orchestrating attacks in Uganda and the broader Great Lakes region, including a series of bombings in 2021.  The attempted bombing near the Munyonyo Shrine, a site of significant religious importance, underscores ongoing threats to religious gatherings in the region.

Martyrs’ Day Celebrations Proceed Under Heightened Security

Despite the attempted attack, Martyrs’ Day celebrations continued at the Namugongo Martyrs’ Shrine, located approximately 18 miles from Munyonyo. The event commemorates the execution of 45 Christian converts in the late 19th century and is one of Uganda’s most significant religious observances. President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni attended the ceremonies, which proceeded under heightened security measures.

What could have been a catastrophic terrorist attack was stopped before any lives were lost, and we give all glory to God for His protection over the innocent. Pray with us in gratitude for the lives spared, for continued safety over churches throughout the region, for strength and courage among Christians facing ongoing threats, and for wisdom and alertness for both local believers and authorities.
