GOOD MORNING.
A troubling trend is emerging: in the past week, churches in Miami-Dade and Castle Rock faced bomb scares, a Parker, Colorado church received bomb threats from a former member, and Michigan officials reported multiple copycat threats after the Grand Blanc tragedy.
No explosives were found, but the impact was real — evacuations, fear, and disruption of worship. It’s a reminder that today’s threats don’t always come through violence alone; sometimes fear itself is the weapon.

SPECIAL REPORT

A Violent Sunday Morning
On the morning of September 28, 2025, worshippers at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, were violently attacked when Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, rammed his pickup truck into the building during services. He then doused the sanctuary with accelerants, ignited a blaze, and opened fire on congregants.
Police and fire units responded within minutes. Sanford exchanged gunfire with officers outside the church and was fatally shot. Authorities say his actions were deliberate and targeted against the LDS community.
Casualties and Damage
Authorities confirmed that four congregants were killed and at least eight others wounded, with victims ranging from children to the elderly. Some died from gunfire, while others succumbed to smoke inhalation as the fire spread rapidly through the building.
The church structure itself was heavily damaged, with parts collapsing under the fire. Investigators later found improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Sanford’s truck, though none were detonated.
Investigation and Response
Federal agencies, including the FBI and ATF, are leading the investigation alongside local police. Sanford, a Marine veteran from nearby Burton, Michigan, is reported to have harbored deep animosity toward the LDS faith, raising the likelihood that the attack will be prosecuted as a hate crime and act of domestic terrorism.
Authorities continue to sift through Sanford’s digital records, devices, and personal history for signs of planning or connections to extremist networks. Law enforcement presence around other LDS churches in Michigan has been increased as a precaution.
Michigan’s governor and national leaders condemned the attack, calling it an assault on both religious freedom and public safety. The LDS Church released a statement mourning the victims, supporting the families, and urging resilience.
